Harit, a tricky and fast sprinter winger for French side Olympique Marseille was originally named in the squad, but he suffered an injury before the tournament and was forced to withdraw from the final squad. He was replaced by Anass Zaroury who plays for Burnley FC in England.

It should be noted that the only player who had never been previously called up for the national team was midfielder Bilel El Khanouss, who plies his trade with Belgian side Genk.

Former Arsenal forward through his Twitter account tweeted, "Proud! What a team! What an achievement for the African continent & the Muslim world. Great to see such a fairytale is still possible in modern football - this will give so many people so much power & hope."

Morocco managed to reach the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup having concedes just a single goal when they played against Canada in the group stages.
Besides being the first African country to reach the semi-finals of this competition, Morocco is also the first Arab nation to reach this far.
