Napoli have been crowned champions of Italy's Serie A after a 1-1 draw with Udinese at the Dacia Arena on Thursday, May 4.
Sandi Lovric put Udinese ahead in the 13th minute, but Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli in the 52nd minute to equalize the score. Despite several attempts by both teams, neither side managed to score a winner, and the match ended in a draw.
With this result, Napoli secured their first league title in over three decades, ending Juventus' nine-year reign as Italian champions. Napoli won the trophy with 80- points from 33 games, 16 points ahead of second-placed Lazio.
Speaking after the match, Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti praised his team's performance throughout the season, saying: "We've worked so hard to get to this point, and I'm so proud of the players for what they've achieved. Winning the title is a dream come true for everyone associated with Napoli."
The result was also a disappointment for Udinese, who find themselves at 12th place with 43 points from 33 games. However, Udinese coach Andrea Sottil said he was pleased with his team's performance against the champions.
"We played well today and gave Napoli a tough game," he said. "We've had a difficult season, but we've shown that we can compete with the best teams in Italy."
Napoli's victory has sparked celebrations across the city, with fans taking to the streets to celebrate the club's first league title since 1990. The club's captain, Giovanni Di Lorenzo, also praised the team's supporters for their unwavering support throughout the season.
"This title is for our fans, who have been with us through thick and thin," he said. "They deserve this more than anyone, and we're so happy to have made them proud."
Napoli will now turn their attention to the upcoming Serie A fixture against Fiorentina on Sunday 7th May.
